Approximately Seventy percent houses in Pakistan have 2-4 rooms in their houses

Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan has recently conducted sixth round of Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) survey 2010-11. In which Information is gathered from 76546 households, the given sample had covered entire country and information is gathered on social sector issues of household from all four provinces of Pakistan. According to the findings 86% of Pakistanis are living in their own houses. Literacy rate of Pakistan is about 58% of population, age group 10 years and above. The primary focus is given on main sectors i.e. Education, Health, Household Assets/ Amenities, Immunization, Pre/Post Natal care of females and Household satisfaction by facilities and services in the overall context of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In this post finding of HOUSING sector is covered.

Statistics for percentage distribution of household by housing tenure shows that Majority (85.92%) Pakistanis have their own houses, 6.75% people living on rent, 5.97% people use to live free and 1.35% of Pakistanis are living on subsidize rent.

• Roofing Material:

Another statistics related to the Roofing Material used in construction of housing units shows that, 27.80% Pakistanis are using RBC/RCC as roofing material, 36% peoples are using WOOD/BAMBOO, 6.78% people are using SHEET/IRON/CEMENT and 29.43% people use other roofing materials for building their house.

*RCC stands for reinforced concrete cement

Material used for Building Walls: Findings related to the Material used for Building Walls shows that, 72.21% Pakistanis use BURNT BRICKS, 21.72% Pakistanis use BRICKS/MUD, 1.94% Pakistanis uses WOOD and 4.14% Pakistanis uses other materials for building walls in there housing units.

• Number of Rooms available in a Housing Unit:

Statistics related to Number of Rooms available in a Housing Unit shows that, 24.83% Pakistanis have one room in their housing unit, 69.33% Pakistanis have 2-4 rooms in their housing units and 5.84% Pakistanis have 5 & more rooms in their housing units.

• Lightning Materials:

The survey findings related to Lightning Materials shows that, in Pakistan majority (91.37%) peoples use electricity for lightning purpose, 7.28% use GAS/OIL, 0.57% use CANDLES and 0.78% uses other lightning materials.

• Fuel Consumption for Cooking:

Statistics related to the Fuel Consumption for Cooking purpose shows that, very less percent (0.03%) of Pakistanis use electricity, 35.42% Pakistanis use GAS/OIL, 47.47% Pakistanis uses CHARCOAL and 17.08% Pakistanis use other materials as fuel for cooking purpose.

• Usage/Sources of Drinking Water:

The statistics related to Usage/Sources of Drinking Water shows that, 32% people of Pakistan use TAP water for drinking, 28% use HAND PUMP, 27% use MOTOR PUMP, 4% use DUG WELL water and 9% uses other sources for drinking water.
